China has constructed a new village in Arunachal Pradesh, consisting of about 101 homes, satellite images dating November 1 2020, have been analysed by several experts who confirmed that the construction approx 4.5 kms within Indian territory of the de facto border, will be of huge concern to India. Though this area is Indian territory, according to official government maps, it has been in effective Chinese control since 1959.
However earlier only a Chinese military post existed, but this time a full-fledged village that can house thousands has been built. The village has been located on the bank of river Tsari chu, lies in the upper Subansiri district, an area which has been long disputed by India and Chine and has been marked by armed conflict. China’s foreign ministry has confirmed the construction of villages, spotted by satellite images in Arunachal Pradesh at the border area. It was constructed in the eastern range of the Himalayas even as Indian and Chinese soldiers confronted each other in their deadliest clash in the decades.
India did not deny the presence of the village, but said it was keeping a constant watch on all developments having a bearing on the country’s security, and was taking necessary measures to safeguard to sovereignty and territorial integrity. The ministry of external affairs said that new Delhi has stepped up the construction of border infrastructure, including roads and bridges for the improvement of livelihood of its citizens.
The recent tensions around Arunachal Pradesh came at a point when relations between India and China have hit a multi decade low since clashes in eastern Ladakh border in june that killed 20 Indian soldiers. China is also believed to have suffered casualties, but has not given any details. Both India and China have accused each other of crossing into rival territory and of firing shots for the first time in 45 years.
As per the official government maps, this area is part of Indian territory but has been in Chinese control since 1959, earlier only a Chinese military post existed in these areas, this time a full-fledged village has been built in it and the military post has been upgraded.
